Switzerland Old World Gifts will be having their first trunk show of the new year on Saturday, Jan. 2 and Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010! There will be a huge selection of beads, bracelets and necklaces to choose from. We will also be previewing the 1st quarter new bead designs for 2010, so you won't want to miss this event!

We just received news that Karolin Steinbach had a healthy baby girl, Liana. Liana is the next generation of the Steinbach family and we hope that one day she will be continuing the long-standing tradition of producing the world-famous Steinbach nutcrackers! Best wishes and congratulations go out to Karolin!

We have been informed that the annual event bird from Christian Ulbricht this year will be the Bald Eagle! As in the past, we are taking pre-orders now and will have them signed for you at the signing event. Please order early to assure that we reserve one for you. We will post an image of the bird as soon as it becomes available or you can subscribe to our mailing list by completing our online form and we will send you a signing event announcement as well as product updates, sales, etc.

The 2009 Steinbach Signing Event has been scheduled for Sunday, October 11th! Dipl-Ing. Karla Steinbach will be arriving at Switzerland Old World Gifts in Tannersville at 12:00pm to begin signing all of our collector's pieces. Please come and join in the festivities and enjoy spending some time with Karla and in the colorful Pocono Mountains during leaf season!
There are many wonderful new nutcrackers, smokers, music boxes, and ornaments to see this year. Also, many of the limited edition series have new editions that I'm sure all the Steinbach collectors out there want to continue adding to their collections. If you have any questions about the signing or want to reserve pieces to be signed on October 11, please call us and we'll be happy to put them aside for you. We also ship anywhere, so if you can't make it to the signing that day, we can always ship the signed pieces to you afterward. We are pleased to announce that we will be having a second Steinbach signing this year on October 31st from 12-5pm! Dipl-Ing. Karla Steinbach, head of the Steinbach factories, was here in August and now we have the honor and privilege of welcoming Karla's daughter, Herr Steinbach's grand-daughter, Dipl-Ing. Karolin Steinbach to our store. What a great opportunity to have your pieces double-signed this year and just in time for the holiday season! All of the new 2008 nutcrackers have been signed by Karla already, so why not get a second signature on it and increase the value as well as making it a highly sought after collectible. Not everyone gets the opportunity to have their collection double or triple signed as many of our pieces can be, so don't miss this rare opportunity.
This year was the first year that Steinbach introduced a signing event only piece for stores hosting signing events. We are pleased to announce that our annual Ulbricht signing event, will be Saturday, November 1st from 1-5pm. Gunther Ulbricht will be visiting the store this year to sign pieces for collectors just in time for the holidays. What a great time of year to get the perfect Christmas present and have it signed at the same time! If you won't be able to make the signing, but would like to order pieces to be signed, please call ahead and reserve them and we'll have them signed for you. If you will be able to join us that day, you'll be able to bring one piece from home to be signed for every piece that you purchase from Switzerland Old World Gifts leading up to the day of the signing.

Renowned character artist Jacqueline Kent has been entertaining crowds in the American and Canadian gift and collectibles industry with her true to life creations since the early 1990's. The introduction of her whimsical Fairy Godmothers touched the hearts of everyone and they quickly became her number one seller. Jacqueline says her inspiration always comes from the people around her. "In particular, my Christmas Carolers were born by my memories as a young girl growing up in London, England and by my parent's stories. My family and I grew up in a rural area and the community was very close-knit. At Christmas time, it was not unusual for a church group or a handful of neighbors to gather for an hour or two of caroling on the street. The children were encouraged by the adults to participate and although my memories have faded somewhat, I can still remember standing outside with my family, singing 'Away in a Manger.' For me, it was a very magical time." |

During the early years of her sculpting career when she was creating one-of-a-kinds, Jacqueline always managed to spare the time to make gifts for her family and friends. One of her "specialties" for babies and children were plush animals with sculptured faces. The kids loved them and their parents adored them. One comment that she heard repeatedly was "they're so cute and cuddly and they've got so much personality!" It was only after she had established herself in the reproduction market that she was encouraged by family and friends to design a line of plush. 2008 marked another great year to have Dipl.-Ing. Karla Steinbach at our store for the annual signing event. This year was particularly special as we helped Karla celebrate her 50th birthday by introducing the special "Queen of Nutcrackers" signing event only nutcracker to our collectors. There are also almost 40 new nutcrackers, smokers and ornaments that were made for this year and you should definitely check them out on our website.
If you missed this year's signing event, we did get many of the new pieces signed by Karla while she was here, so give us a call or order online to keep up with your limited edition nutcrackers. Also, keep your eyes out for another possible signing date at our store with either Karla or Karolin Steinbach later this year!

The 2008 Steinbach and Ulbricht Nutcrackers are incredible and they have already been uploaded to the site, so please take a look through and check out all the new pieces! We had the opportunity to see all the new pieces in person at the gift shows this past month and were thoroughly impressed as I'm sure you will be too. The new pieces will start arriving in late Spring/early Summer, so begin reserving your pieces today; especially for the upcoming signing events which we'll be hosting again this year for both product lines.
As in the past, Ulbricht will be producing a signing event only "bird" which they have not revealed yet, but in typical fashion, I'm sure it will be fantastic! Also new this year is an event piece only for Dipl.-Ing. Karla Steinbach. The piece doesn't have an official name yet, but for the time being we're calling it the Queen of Nutcrackers. This nutcracker was made to commemorate Karla's 50th Birthday this year! This piece will only be available through stores that host a signing event, so reserve yours early to be assured that you receive one.

Ines Ulbricht arrived at the store around 11am on Sunday and was greeted by a store full of collectors and familiar faces. Ines signed each piece that the collectors purchased today or brought from home with them to be signed. It's a great tradition that began several years ago to have Ulbricht signing events and now we look forward to having a member of the Ulbricht family with us here every year!
We took some pictures during the day that I wanted to post and share with you and hope that everyone that made it for the event had a great time with Ines.

Many collectors showed up this past weekend from across the country to welcome Dipl-Ing. Karla Steinbach to our store and to have their valuable nutcrackers signed. I wanted to share a few photos from the event with you and hope that all in attendance had a wonderful time while she was here.

Sadly, in February 2007, Herr Christian Steinbach passed away at the age of 85. Herr Steinbach was always a joy to be around and entertained customer's of our store for over a decade. He will be greatly missed by all.
His daughter, Dipl-Ing. Karla Steinbach, will be continuing the tradition of producing some of the finest German nutcrackers as the General Manager of the Steinbach factories. Karla's daughter, Karolin, is also quite involved with the family business and we've entertained both Karla and Karolin at our store in 2006. We look forward to continuing the tradition of having the Steinbach family come to our store each year for signing events and for our collectors to share their stories.
Herr Steinbach - Thank you for everything you've done for us and for the great legacy that will continue on for many years to come!
